If you’ve never made mittens before, this is the class for you! The pattern is The World’s Simplest Mittens by Tin Can Knits and is available for free on Ravelry. These mittens can knitted in four different weights of yarn from fingering to chunky and you’ll learn all the basics, including knitting in the round on 2 circular needles, increasing for the thumb gusset , shaping the top and then picking up and knitting the thumb. The pattern is written for 5 sizes, from toddler to adult large. The whole family will have warm hands!

This popular cowl is a beautiful example of mosaic knitting. The pattern is The Shift by Andrea Mowry and is available for purchase on Ravelry. It looks like there is color work involved but with this technique you slip stitches and knit with only one color on any given row, so it’s easier than it looks! You’ll use 3 different, contrasting skeins of variegated or solid yarn to create this striking cowl.

Techniques learned – Mosaic knitting, i-cord edging and bind off, simple seam

These gloves will be the best gloves you’ve ever owned! Unlike fingerless mitts, they actually have fingers which are cut off halfway. This makes them warm and cozy AND functional - you can text, drive, pick up after your dog and get out your credit card without taking them off! They are knitted in the round, with the individual fingers picked up and knitted.

This pullover is worked seamlessly top down in DK weight yarn and uses slipped stitches to create the color work on the yoke. The back neck is shaped with short rows and the sleeves are picked up and knitted seamlessly in the round. The overall pattern is very straightforward and this could be your first top down sweater!

This cozy blanket is created with a combination of mitered squares and garter borders. Mitered squares are garter stitch blocks with a central diagonal decrease and in this blanket they are bordered by garter strips. The blocks are knitted (no purling) individually but are attached as you make the blanket, so there is no seaming at the end (yay!). The blanket is actually “built” as you knit so you’ll be learning how to pick up stitches as you create this comfy throw.

This new design from PetiteKnit is knitted in two directions, top down and seamlessly. The slipover has a deep armhole and is closed with 2 buttons on both sides. The armhole edges and sides are picked and ribbed and then the button plackets are picked up and double knitted. It’s finished off with a picked up ribbed turtleneck. This is packed with cool techniques and is sure to be a fun project to make and wear!

Addilyn is made with chunky weight yarn and is worked in one piece from the neck down. It features a garter drop stitch pattern and an asymmetrical, buttoned cowl neck where the elongated dropped stitches form the buttonholes. The neck is worked back and forth and then joined in the round for the body. The shoulders are shaped with 2-row increases. You can wear it over your shoulders as a capelet or draped around your neck as a cowl!

This basic hat could be your first hat! It can be knitted with a fold up cuff or a double brim and can be finished off with a cute pompom. You’ll learn how to knit in the round and if you choose the double brim, you’ll learn how to do a provisional cast on and pick up stitches to attach the brim. The crown is shaped with standard decreases and finished with an additional circular needle to accommodate the decreased number of stitches. It will work up quickly in heavy worsted or aran weight yarn and will keep you warm all winter!

Don’t be fooled, this tunic may look knitted, but it is crocheted!  The Deciduous Tunic by Alla Koval, is a classic sleeveless sweater worked sideways to achieve the rib-stitch look. It includes a mock turtle neck, a high-low hem and interlocking side panels. The tunic is worked in one piece from left to right.  The side panels are crocheted in strips and then twisted and sewn in place.  Learn to read a pattern, work  garment sideways and construct tunic.  Pattern is available for purchase on Ravelry or Interweave Crochet Magazine Fall 2019.
